Ramon Lascano's creates extraordinary sculptures made from discarded books.
The pages of the books are folded and creased into repetitive shapes that fan out and totally transform the geometry of the original book. The text wraps in and around the folds creating additional patterns which are complemented by light and shadows falling on the pages. These works are sometimes combined into wall-mounted or
free-standing columns that reference architectural details.
Recently, Lascano began to experiment with removing the book covers, and slicing, folding and knotting the paper into shapes which he mounts on plywood, forming intricate textural topographies.
